Meta Ads Agency vs In-House Management
By Adedon · Updated 2026-08-14
Should I hire a Meta Ads agency or manage ads in-house?
Hire a Meta Ads agency (or a Done For You operator) when nobody on staff will own creative refresh, conversion quality, and weekly decisions. Keep ads in-house when you have a dedicated operator plus a path to produce new creative. A Done With You model sits in between: the specialist installs the system and stays on a lighter retainer while your team runs more of the week. The wrong choice is ‘agency on paper’ with no access, or ‘in-house’ that is actually the founder logging in twice a month.
What in-house actually requires
In-house is not cheaper by default. You still need someone who understands events, creative testing, and how Meta’s delivery system behaves — plus coverage when they are on leave. Tool logins without a cadence are not in-house management.
What a good agency relationship looks like
You keep Business Manager ownership. The agency gets partner access. Spend changes are recommended, then approved. Reporting explains tradeoffs. If an agency refuses to work in your Business Manager or cannot explain last week without jargon, you are renting opacity.
Hybrids exist on purpose
Done With You is for teams that will keep some ownership: marketing managers who want training, playbooks, and a specialist reviewing the account. Done For You is for owners who want the work off their plate. Adedon sells both as peer packages, not as a funnel into software. The OS is coming soon.
Cost is not the only comparison
Agencies bring pattern recognition across accounts and a bench. In-house brings proximity to sales and product. Neither automatically produces better ROAS. Compare who will produce creative, who will talk to sales about lead quality, and who can pause an ad on a bad morning.
A simple decision rule
If the founder is the media buyer, the copywriter, and the closer, paid social will be the first thing to slip. That is an agency or Done For You signal. If you already have an operator who needs structure and a second set of eyes, Done With You or a fractional specialist is the better fit.
Frequently asked questions
Can I start in-house and switch to an agency later?+−
Yes, if the Business Manager, pixel, and ad account stay in the company’s control. Switching is painful when everything lives under a contractor’s personal profile.
Will an agency understand my industry?+−
Industry familiarity helps with policy, creative tone, and sales cycles. It does not replace a clear offer and tracking. Ask for how they would structure your first 90 days, not only for logos.
Is hiring one media buyer enough?+−
Often you still need creative production. A buyer without new ads to test will polish a dying account. Budget for both functions, in-house or through the agency.
