How Much Does a Digital Advertising Agency Cost?

How much does a digital advertising agency cost?
A digital advertising agency usually charges a monthly retainer, a percent of ad spend, a setup fee, or a mix. Quotes vary with channels (Meta, Google, both), creative production, reporting depth, and how many offers or locations you run. Treat any ‘typical industry average’ with suspicion unless it includes a deliverable list. Adedon scopes operated work as Done With You (setup $1,500–$5,000, then $1,000–$2,500 per month) or Done For You (setup $3,000–$8,000, then $2,000–$5,000 per month). Media spend is billed by the platforms separately.
What you are actually buying
Hours of operating cadence, senior review, creative coordination, and reporting — or a black box. Price without a cadence is not comparable. Ask who does the work and how often you will hear from them.
Retainers versus percent of spend
Percent of spend scales with media and can reward bigger budgets. Retainers are easier to forecast and must be honest about the spend band they assume. Hybrids exist. None of them include the clicks themselves.
Setup fees are not a gotcha if they are real work
Tracking audits, account rebuilds, and first creative batches are projects. Rolling them into month one ‘for free’ often means they never happen.
Full-service versus paid-media specialist
A digital agency that also sells SEO, web, and brand will price a bundle. A Meta-and-Google operator will price the media job. Compare like with like. Adedon is the latter, with DFY/DWY packages — not a 12-service holding company.
Software is not this article’s product
Adedon’s advertising OS is coming soon. Agency cost here means human-operated advertising services. Do not mix a future software seat with a retainer in one cell of a spreadsheet.
Frequently asked questions
Why do quotes differ so much?+−
Scope. Creative included or not, Google plus Meta or one, number of ad accounts, and seniority. The cheap quote often omitted the work you assumed was included.
Is a long contract required?+−
Some agencies require them. You should still own the ad accounts. Ask about exit and notice. Hostages are a pricing model too.
Does more spend always mean a higher fee?+−
Workload often rises with spend (more creative, more risk), but not linearly. A well-structured account at higher spend can be calmer than a chaotic small one.
