How to Read a Meta Ads Report
By Adedon · Updated 2026-08-14
How do you read a Meta Ads report?
Read a Meta Ads report by starting with the campaign’s job and date range, then spend versus plan, then results using the named event, then diagnostics (frequency, CTR, CPM, placement). Check whether results are platform-attributed or matched to CRM. Look at which creatives carried the week. Ignore vanity columns that were not in the brief. If the report cannot explain a recommendation, it is a data export, not a read.
Date range and comparison
Compare to the prior period and to the same weekday pattern if your business is lumpy. A Monday-versus-Sunday comparison will create fake emergencies.
Delivery first
Did it spend? Were ads active? Did events fire? A beautiful CPA on $12 of spend is not a week. Delivery problems are operational, not ‘creative strategy.’
Creative table
Which ads spent, their frequency, CTR, and results. This is where fatigue shows. An account-level number can hide one ad doing all the work.
Attribution footnote
Meta’s default view may include view-through. Say so. If you changed the window, say so. Founders deserve that sentence.
Quality footnote
If sales said leads were weak, that belongs in the report even if Meta CPA looks fine. Adedon writes that as observed input from the client, not as a platform fact.
Frequently asked questions
Which attribution setting should the report use?+−
Pick one for the recurring report and stick to it. Changing windows to make a week look better is not analysis.
Should I read account, campaign, or ad level?+−
Account for pacing, campaign for jobs, ad for creative decisions. Skipping to ads first loses the job.
What is ‘results’ in Meta?+−
Whatever the campaign optimized for, unless the report overrides the column. Confirm the event name.
