Meta Ads vs Google Ads
By Adedon · Updated 2026-08-14
What is the difference between Meta Ads and Google Ads?
Google Ads (especially Search) captures existing demand when someone types a query. Meta Ads interrupt people on Facebook and Instagram and must create or remind demand with creative. Google leans on keywords, Quality Score, and conversion actions; Meta leans on creative, events, and delivery models. Most growing businesses that can afford both use them for different jobs rather than picking a single winner.
Intent versus interruption
Search is a raised hand. Social is a tap on the shoulder. That single difference explains why Google leads often feel ‘hotter’ and Meta leads often need faster follow-up and tighter qualifying questions. Neither is morally better; they are different temperatures.
Creative load
Meta without a refresh cadence dies of frequency. Google Search can run text ads longer if queries stay stable, though RSAs still need iteration. If you cannot produce visual creative, Google Search is the more forgiving start. If you have a visual offer and a cold audience, Meta (or Demand Gen) can build demand Search later harvests.
Tracking cultures
Both platforms want conversion events and will disagree with your CRM. Meta’s view-through and Google’s branded search can each look like heroes in their own UI. Compare them in your books, not in a screenshot fight.
When one channel is enough (for now)
If people already search for the service in your geo, Search may be the first dollar. If the category is not searched but is visually compelling (a med spa offer, a consumer app), Meta may be first. ‘Vs’ does not mean you must run only one forever.
How Adedon runs both
Paid media management keeps one cadence, one report language, and no autonomous budget shifting between platforms. You approve money. Done For You operates both; Done With You trains your team. The OS is coming soon.
Frequently asked questions
Which is cheaper, Meta or Google?+−
Wrong question. Cost per click is not cost per customer. Compare qualified outcomes and payback, not CPC folklore.
Can I copy the same ad to both?+−
You can waste money that way. Search copy answers a query; Meta copy earns a stop. Adapt the message.
Should I pause the worse one?+−
Only after you know they are not feeding each other. People see a Meta ad and later search your name. Killing Meta can make Google ‘look better’ while total pipeline falls.
