Meta or Google Ads for Lead Generation
By Adedon · Updated 2026-08-14
Is Meta or Google better for lead generation?
Google Search is usually better when buyers search with intent and you can win the query at an acceptable cost per qualified lead. Meta is usually better when you must create demand, show the offer visually, or generate volume your sales team can filter. ‘Better’ is cost per sales-accepted lead, not cost per form fill. Most serious lead-gen programs eventually use both with different scripts and SLAs.
Define qualified before you pick a logo
If sales cannot describe a good lead, both platforms will find you plenty of bad ones. Write the qualification, then choose inventory. Instant forms on Meta and call extensions on Google will both punish vague offers.
Google: fewer, often dearer, closer to the ask
Category queries can be expensive. They also map to a sentence the person already said. Your landing page should continue that sentence. If you do not rank and cannot afford the CPC, Google may not be the first lead-gen home.
Meta: more volume, more filtering
Questions on the form, speed-to-lead, and creative that names who it is not for are the quality system. Turning off Meta because ‘leads are flaky’ without changing the form is how companies leave cheap-enough qualified volume on the table.
Offline conversions make the comparison fair
Import qualified and won back to both platforms when you can. Then the algorithms and the report start talking about the same animal. Until then, you are comparing two different definitions of ‘lead.’
Frequently asked questions
Why does sales prefer Google leads?+−
Often because the person asked. Sometimes because Meta leads arrive nights and weekends with no SLA. Fix the process before you crown a channel.
Should dentists use Meta or Google?+−
Many use Google for high-intent procedures and Meta for offers and new patient volume. Healthcare policy applies on both. See the industry guides.
Can I run lead gen without a website?+−
Yes via native forms and calls. You still need follow-up infrastructure. A website that explains proof usually helps both channels.
