When Should a Business Hire a Paid Media Agency?

When should a business hire a paid media agency?
Hire a paid media agency when advertising is clearly part of how you will grow and nobody capable is operating it weekly — or when someone is operating it and the waste, tracking, or reporting is obviously broken. Other signals: you cannot produce creative on a cadence, sales hates the leads and nobody is changing the forms, or Search demand exists and you are not on the SERP. Do not hire an agency to rescue an offer that cannot convert offline. Do not hire one as a substitute for owning your ad accounts.
Demand exists and you are absent
People search the service; competitors buy the query; you have a page that could convert. That is a hire-for-Google signal. Waiting for organic can be a choice; pretending the query is not there is not.
You are already spending and cannot explain last month
If the founder cannot say what you got for the media bill, you are late. An operator’s first job may be an audit, not a scale plan.
The team is maxed
A marketer doing brand, email, web, and ads will drop ads first. DWY or DFY is how you buy the dropped job back without a full-time media hire you cannot manage.
When to wait
No offer, no way to follow up leads, no budget for both media and management. An agency cannot invent those. Get the floor in place.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a revenue milestone?+−
Not a universal one. There is a complexity and opportunity milestone. A small clinic in a competitive city can need help earlier than a quiet niche with referrals.
Should I hire before or after a site redesign?+−
If the site cannot convert, fix the destination first or in parallel. Hiring media to feed a broken site is a known expensive sequence.
Can I hire just for a launch?+−
Project setup plus a short operate window can work. Pure ‘set and forget after launch’ usually decays. Plan the after.
